Question 1

What is a house clearance?

Accepted Answer

A house clearance is the removal of the contents of a property — furniture, appliances, personal items and general household waste. Providers typically donate or resell good-quality items and recycle or dispose of the rest responsibly.

Question 2

When do I need a house clearance?

Accepted Answer

Common reasons include bereavement and probate, end of tenancy, downsizing, divorce, selling a property, or clearing a hoarded home.

Question 3

Do you cover my area?

Accepted Answer

We work with vetted providers across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Enter your postcode and we will match you with local firms.

Question 4

Is the service really free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Comparing quotes through our platform is free and there is no obligation to book.

Question 5

How much does a UK house clearance cost?

Accepted Answer

Most UK clearances cost between £400 and £1,500 depending on property size, volume of items and access. Larger or hoarded homes can go above £2,000.

Question 6

What is included in the price?

Accepted Answer

A reputable quote should include labour, vehicle, loading, transport and proper disposal or recycling of items. Always check whether VAT is included.

Question 7

Are there extra charges I should watch for?

Accepted Answer

Common extras include hazardous waste (paint, chemicals), very heavy items, upper floors without a lift, long carries from the van, and same-week urgent bookings.

Question 8

Can I get a fixed price?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Most providers offer a fixed price after a brief phone or video survey so you know the total cost up front.

Question 9

How quickly can a clearance be done?

Accepted Answer

Many providers can attend within a few days and complete a typical home in one day. Same-week urgent bookings are possible for a premium.

Question 10

Do I need to be there on the day?

Accepted Answer

It helps, but it is not always required. For probate or overseas owners, providers can collect keys and send photo or video proof after completion.

Question 11

What happens to my items?

Accepted Answer

Good-quality items are typically donated to charity or resold. The rest is recycled where possible and only what cannot be reused goes to proper licensed disposal.

Question 12

Can I keep some items?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Tell the provider what to keep and they will work around those items, or complete a part-clearance of specific rooms only.

Question 13

Are providers insured and licensed?

Accepted Answer

Every provider on our platform carries public liability insurance and a valid UK waste carrier licence registered with the Environment Agency (or the relevant devolved body).

Question 14

How do you vet providers?

Accepted Answer

We check company registration, insurance, waste carrier licence and customer reviews before adding a provider to the network, and we monitor feedback on an ongoing basis.

Question 15

What if I am not happy with a provider?

Accepted Answer

Let us know and we will help mediate. We take complaints seriously and can remove providers who do not meet our standards.

Question 16

Do you handle probate or bereavement clearances?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Many of our providers specialise in sensitive probate and bereavement clearances and can liaise with solicitors or executors directly.
